What is IPL and RF E light Treatment?

IPL and RF E light treatments are noninvasive procedures used to erase the signs of aging from the face, neck, chest and hands using Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) and Radio Frequency (RF) energy combined in the same pulse.

IPL and RF E light treatment has the unique capability to treat multiple symptoms of aging skin on your entire face in each treatment session, including red blemishes, mottled coloration, broken blood vessels, pigment discoloration (such as freckles and age spots, enlarged pores, coarse or rough skin, loss of skin tone and elasticity, and general sun damage). The result is a youthful, smooth and revitalized facial appearance. Intense Pulsed Light therapy can also treat spots, discolored areas, and other telltale signs of aging on your hands, chest and neck. Whether you're a man or a woman, if you are showing the signs of aging and sun damaged skin, hyperpigmentation, melasma, freckles, rosacea, flushing, redness, ruddy complexion or broken capillaries on the face, you can consider intense pulsed light and RF E light treatment to help you look younger and feel better.

In addition to treating multiple symptoms and locations in each session, ipl or laser hair removal is gentle, noninvasive and safe. You see results in the complexion and the skin texture of the entire face. You can return to your normal routines and activities immediately. Additionally, IPL treatments are customized to your specific skin type and color providing the best possible results. Because of this, there is no recovery time.

Beginning about 30 to 45 minutes before treatment, you will be instructed to use a topical anesthetic ointment on the treatment area. Just prior to the procedure, your skin will be cleansed, protective eyewear will be applied and cold ultrasound gel will be smoothed on the skin surface.

During treatment the smooth glass surface of the ipl skin rejuvenation hand piece is gently applied to your skin delivering pulses of light to the area being treated. Most patients describe a warm, light "rubber-band snap" sensation as the energy enters their skin. To minimize discomfort, cold air will be used on the treatment area during the procedure. The procedure takes anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the number of areas treated.

Afterwards, a calming cream and cold compresses may be applied. After the treatment, most patients feel a little bit of warmth in the skin, which usually diminishes in 1 to 3 hours. Lingering redness and minimal swelling usually resolve within 24 to 48 hours, especially if cool compresses are used liberally on the day of treatment. Makeup may be applied immediately and you may return to normal activities immediately after the treatment.

Doctors and trained staff members perform such procedures. A treatment program typically includes five sessions of about 20 to 30 minutes each, performed at 3 to 4 week intervals.

It is usual to see minimal redness and mild swelling in the treated area for the first 12 hours. In some cases, when more aggressive settings are used, you may notice "welts" or "stripes" which develop within the first 24 to 48 hours. This side effect can be minimized by liberal use of cool compresses afterward on the day of treatment. Rarely, there may be increased or decreased pigmentation noted in the treatment areas, but this usually resolves within a few months. The ipl machine and RF E light treatments have proven to be low risk, are associated with few complications and patients rarely have downtime or have to miss work or regular activities.

Gradual, progressive improvement of skin tone is typically achieved in 5 treatment sessions. The total number of required treatment sessions depends on your skin's condition. Retention of positive results will depend on your lifestyle. Regular use of sunscreen and practicing sun avoidance will help to prolong the renewed appearance of your skin. It is usual for patients to require a booster treatment about once a year.
